Cocobolo hollow vessel with ebony collar was turned by Ernie Morse, and is 3 1/2 " wide x 4 3/4 " high.
One of the true tropical rosewoods, Cocobolo is a beautiful, fine-textured wood, ranging in color from rich dark brick red to reddish or dark brown. Cocobolo is highly durable and strong, but, because of its scarcity and high value, it is used for its rare beauty. Origin is Central America and Mexico. African Gaboon Ebony is noted for its heavy black, fine grained heartwood, which combined with its very high density, fine texture, and ability to polish very smoothly, has made it very valuable as an ornamental wood. Piano keys, chess pieces, and guitar fingerboards are modern uses.
